Suspected drink driver named after Coastal Road crash

The name of a suspected drink driver has been released following a collision near Southport that forced the closure of a main road.

Merseyside Police confirmed that officers were called to the Coastal Road between Weld Road and Shore Road on Friday, May 20. Police received reports of a crash at around 6.45pm. The crash occurred between a Ford Mondeo and a Mercedes with no serious injuries being reported. Police have also confirmed that a man has been charged following the crash.

Lewis Woodhouse, 38, of no fixed abode, has been charged with driving a motor vehicle when alcohol level above limit and using a motor vehicle without insurance and bailed to appear in court on Monday, July 4. A Merseyside Police spokesperson told the ECHO: "We were contacted at 6.45pm on Friday 20 th May to reports of an RTC between a Ford Mondeo and a Mercedes on the Coastal Road.

"There are no reports of anyone being seriously injured. Lewis Woodhouse, 38, of no fixed abode, has been charged with driving a motor vehicle when alcohol level above limit and using a motor vehicle without insurance and bailed to appear in court on Monday 4 July."
