Suspected burglar named after motorbike gang raid jewellery shop

A suspected burglar has been named by police following a shop raid in Southport.

Police attended Rebecca's Jewellers, at around 9pm on Monday, March 21, after reports of a break in. The shop, on Lord Street, had been damaged and jewellery had been stolen.

Officers set up a cordon around an area of Lord Street while an investigation into the incident took place on Tuesday, March 22. Officers later confirmed that a man was arrested in connection with the burglary.

In a statement after the crime, Detective Chief Inspector Gayle Rooney said: “Thanks to a member of the public who called us as soon as this incident took place our officers were able to make a prompt arrest."

Protesters block road to Port of Liverpool and chant 'shame on P&O'

Anti-P&O protesters have been moved from the entrance to the Port of Liverpool.

Around 40 demonstrators were on a road outside the port from around 8am this morning on Wednesday, March 23. The group stood on the road leading to the port where P&O has a Liverpool to Dublin service.

Darren Ireland, RMT regional organiser, said: "We're trying to get the point across about the way P&O is treating seafarers, it is absolutely shocking."
