Suspect named after high speed chase ends in a lake

A suspect was named after a high speed police chase ended in a lake.

At around 3.15pm on April 17, police were called to reports of a van being stolen from the St Helens area. Soon after, police spotted the stolen van on Westfield Street, and took chase.

Witnesses reported seeing the grey van 'flying' through Prescot, with police in hot pursuit. The van was then crashed into a wall outside a home on Halsnead Avenue in Whiston before the driver fled the vehicle and attempted to escape by jumping into a lake in Stadt Moers Park.

Thomas Michael Dean, 33, of no fixed address has been charged with robbery, dangerous driving, driving while disqualified and refusing to provide a sample for a drugs test

The 33-year-old was remanded in custody to appear at Wirral Magistrates Court on Tuesday April 19, where he was further remanded into custody to appear at court at a later date.

A woman has died after being hit by a Mini Cooper in Wigan. (Manchester Evening News)

A woman has died after being hit by a Mini Cooper in Wigan.

Emergency Services rushed to Kirkhall Lane, Leigh, at around 1.30am on Wedensday, April 20, following reports of a crash. Once at the scene officers and paramedics found a woman was hit by a blue Mini Cooper, which was travelling towards Atherleigh Way, MEN reports.

Police have since confirmed the woman has died. The driver of the vehicle stopped at the scene and has been assisting officers as they make enquiries.

Paramedics from the North West Ambulance service also attended the scene, which saw the road closed off overnight before reopening shortly before 8am.

Man, 18, arrested after man shot in the neck in broad daylight

An 18-year-old man has been arrested after a man was shot in the neck in broad daylight.

Police were called to Rosalind Way in Kirkdale at around 3pm on Tuesday, April 19 after reports a man had been shot in an alleyway. The 21-year-old man was taken to hospital for treatment to a gunshot wound to his neck. His condition is described as serious but not life-threatening.

One person living in the area said they heard a "bang" but thought it was a "motorbike backfiring". They added "kids were playing out in the street" at the time of the incident.

It was reported two males wearing dark clothing were seen running from the scene towards Westminster Road. A cordon remained in the area last night as officers continued to carry out forensic, CCTV, house-to-house and witness enquiries.

At this stage the shooting is believed to have been targeted. Police have now arrested a man on suspicion of possessing a firearm without a certificate. Merseyside Police has appealed to anyone who was in the area at the time to come forward.
