Suspect named after dad killed outside nightclub

A man has been named as a suspect after a dad-of-two was killed outside a nightclub.

Joshua Hughes, 22, died after being involved in an altercation outside the former Glow nightclub. The incident took place in the early hours of Sunday, June 12 last year where police were called to the club following reports a man was punched.

It was reported that he fell to the ground and hit his head. Joshua was rushed to hospital to be treated for his injuries but later died, LancsLive reports.

Lancashire Police have now said they have charged Sean Orrell, 32, of Leigh, with manslaughter. Orrell has been bailed and is due to appear at Preston Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, April 20.

A spokesperson for Lancashire Police said: "Detectives investigating an altercation outside a nightclub in Lancaster have today charged a man.

"We were called at shortly before 4.30am on Sunday June 12 to a report that a man had been punched during an altercation outside Glow nightclub, Dalton Square, causing him to fall and hit his head on the ground. The man, Joshua Hughes, 22, who was part of a group who had been inside the club earlier but had been ejected, was taken to hospital in a critical condition.

"Despite the best efforts of medical professionals, Mr Hughes, of Morecambe, died on the morning of June 16. A 32-year-old man from Leigh was arrested on suspicion of Section 18 assault and bailed pending further enquiries.

"Following consultation with the Crown Prosecution Service, Sean Orrell, 32, of Leigh, has today (Wednesday February 1) been charged with manslaughter. He has been bailed to appear at Preston Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, April 20."
