A suspect was named after a car was stopped by an officers when he smelt something suspicious.
Officers stopped a car at the entrance of Wallasey Tunnel on Thursday after a grey Fiat Punto came to the attention of police on Gorsey Lane, Wallasey after an officer in a vehicle behind smelled cannabis. The car was stopped a short time later at the tunnel entrance for a search under the Misuse of Drugs Act at the approach to the Wallasey tunnel at around 12.30am.
Following the search, a quantity of cannabis and cash was recovered from the vehicle. The car was seized and the driver and passenger detained. Police also searched two addresses and found an air rifle, cannabis and cash which were also seized.

Carl Mello, 34, of Cheapside in Liverpool was arrested and later charged with possession of a firearm when prohibited for life, acquiring criminal property and possession of a Class B controlled drug (cannabis). He was remanded in custody top appear at Liverpool Magistrates Court today.
A 39-year-old man from Liscard who was arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the production of a Class B controlled drug (cannabis), drug driving, driving with no insurance, and theft of a motor vehicle was released under investigation.
