U.S. Marshals have successfully located and detained the suspect involved in a fatal hit-and-run incident that occurred in Urbana, Illinois. The suspect, identified as Juan Jahaziel Saenz-Suarez, a 27-year-old Mexican national residing in Urbana, is accused of hitting two individuals, Chloe Polzin, 21, and Katherine Abraham, 20, in a crash that took place on January 19.
Following investigative leads that pointed to Saenz-Suarez as the owner of a red Mitsubishi Outlander involved in the fatal crash, authorities obtained a warrant for his arrest on January 20, as confirmed by Urbana police in a recent press release.
The U.S. Marshals Service successfully located Saenz-Suarez in Milford, Texas, located approximately an hour south of Dallas. He was apprehended while aboard an El Expreso bus destined for Matamoros, Mexico. The USMS Northern District of Texas North Texas Fugitive Task Force, along with Deputy United States Marshals and Task Force Officers, took Saenz-Suarez into custody at 0915 hours CST for further transportation to the Dallas County Jail in Texas, where he will await extradition.
The tragic incident occurred when Saenz-Suarez rear-ended Polzin and Abraham, who were stopped at a red light. The crash resulted in injuries to other passengers as well. It was noted by the USMS that Saenz-Suarez had previously been deported from the United States once before.
Urbana Police Chief Larry D. Boone expressed gratitude for the collaborative efforts between the Urbana Police Department and the U.S. Marshals Service in capturing Saenz-Suarez.
