PHATTHALUNG: A man accused of shooting his former wife dead in Bangkok took his own life to avoid arrest by police waiting outside his house in Pa Phayom district late on Tuesday night, police said.
Sathaporn Khaophuak, 60, was the prime suspect in the murder of Krongkamol, 47, his former wife. She was shot with a 9mm pistol in the car park of a condominium building in Bangkok's Huay Khwang district about 2am on Monday, and the incident was caught on camera.
The woman's daughter by another man told police that Sathaporn killed her mother.
Police learned that Sathaporn had boarded a bus and returned to his house in Pa Phayom district in Phatthalung.
Early on Tuesday night, police from Thonglor station in Bangkok arrived at the house in company with local police. They asked Sathaporn's daughter and elder brother to help talk the man into surrendering.
The daughter and brother came out from the house about 10.30pm and told the police Sathaporn would surrender in 10 minutes.
Shortly afterwards, a gunshot was heard inside the house. Police entering the premises found Sathaporn lying dead in a room on the upper floor with a bullet wound in the head. He was holding a 9mm pistol in his right hand.
The body was sent to Pa Phayom Hospital for an autopsy.
