Authorities have confirmed that a suspect is in custody for the murder of a veteran American Airlines flight attendant who was one of the victims killed in a random stabbing spree during a layover in Denver. The suspect, Elijah Caudill, 24, was arrested late Sunday evening in connection to four stabbings that occurred over the weekend.
American Airlines confirmed that Phoenix-based flight attendant Celinda Levno, 71, was one of the victims. The airline expressed deep sorrow over the tragic loss and extended thoughts and support to her family, loved ones, and colleagues. The Association of Professional Flight Attendants also mourned Levno's passing and highlighted her long career in the industry.
The incident took place around 5:17 p.m. on Saturday when officers responded to reports of a stabbing. Levno and two other victims were found with injuries, and despite being transported to a local hospital, Levno was pronounced dead. Another male victim succumbed to his injuries on Sunday night.
Investigators have stated that there appears to be no connection between Caudill and the victims, and the motive for the attacks remains unknown. Caudill is currently held without bail and is facing first-degree murder and first-degree attempted murder charges.
Flight crews on layover in Denver have been relocated to a hotel near the airport, although the stabbing did not occur at the layover hotel. The tragic loss of Celinda Levno has deeply impacted the aviation community, and efforts are underway to support her family and colleagues during this difficult time.
