A suspect accused of a deadly shooting at a grocery store in Arkansas has been charged with additional counts of attempted murder. Travis Eugene Posey, 44, now faces four counts of capital murder and 11 counts of attempted capital murder, according to online court records.
Posey appeared before a judge this week on the new charges and is being held without bond. He had previously pleaded not guilty to the murder charges, as confirmed by the prosecuting attorney in the case.
The incident took place at the Mad Butcher in Fordyce, Arkansas, on June 21. Authorities believe Posey started shooting at victims in the parking lot before entering the store and firing at customers and employees inside.
According to Secretary of Public Safety and Director of Arkansas State Police Mike Hagar, Posey was armed with a shotgun and fired indiscriminately during the attack. Law enforcement responded to the scene around 11:30 a.m. and exchanged gunfire with the suspect, ultimately stopping the threat.
Following the incident, Posey was treated for non-life-threatening injuries and taken into custody at the Ouachita County Detention Center. A motive for the shooting remains unclear as the investigation continues.
The suspect now faces a total of four capital murder charges and 11 counts of attempted capital murder. The community and authorities are working together to ensure justice is served in this tragic event.
