NEW YORK — A Brooklyn woman has been charged in the unprovoked stabbing of a mom who shielded her 3-year-old daughter from the attacker in a blond wig, a police source said.
Lequasiah Lawrence, 25, of Vinegar Hill, was arrested at 7:45 p.m. Wednesday night and charged with attempted murder and felony assault, according to police.
A tipster pointed out Lawrence to police, and she was being questioned at the 84th Precinct stationhouse in downtown Brooklyn, the source said.
A picture of the suspect holding her blond wig in her hand was released by the NYPD earlier Thursday.
Police said Lawrence while wearing the wig, confronted the 36-year-old mother near Jay and Tillary Sts. about 3:30 p.m. Monday.
‘Why are you looking at me?” Lawrence asked the mom, according to a second police source. “I’m gonna stab your kid!”
When the mother stepped between her daughter and the attacker, she whipped out a knife and plunged it into the mom’s chest, police said. The mother was also stabbed multiple times in both legs before Lawrence allegedly ran off north on Jay St.
The daughter was not hurt.
Medics took the mother to Jamaica Hospital in stable condition.
It’s still unclear why she attempted to attack the child or the mother.
