Authorities in Santa Barbara, California, have identified the suspect responsible for throwing an explosive device inside the Santa Maria courthouse. The incident resulted in injuries to five individuals, but fortunately, none of the injuries were life-threatening.

The suspect, 20-year-old Nathaniel McGuire, was apprehended shortly after the explosion occurred. McGuire allegedly threw a backpack containing the explosive device into the courthouse before attempting to flee the scene. He was quickly detained by court security officers and law enforcement personnel.

McGuire, who was wearing body armor at the time of his arrest, did not sustain any physical injuries from the explosion. Police believe that his motive for the attack may have been related to a previous arrest for possessing an unregistered firearm.

Authorities are investigating potential connections between McGuire and recent arson fires in the area. Search warrants have been issued for McGuire's car and residence as part of the ongoing investigation.

McGuire has been booked on multiple felony charges, including attempted murder, manufacturing an explosive device, and using an explosive device for attempted murder. Despite the severity of the incident, investigators currently do not suspect that McGuire's actions were part of a larger conspiracy.

A police spokesperson emphasized that while the investigation is ongoing, they believe the incident was a local matter involving an individual with a personal grievance. The situation has been deemed resolved, with no remaining safety concerns for the community.

All five individuals injured in the explosion have been treated for their injuries, which included burns. Fortunately, they have all been released from the hospital following medical care.
