Authorities have apprehended a suspect in connection with the assault of an election clerk at a polling location in San Antonio. The incident occurred on Thursday night as polls were closing, as reported by the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office.
The suspect, identified as Jesse Lutzenberger, a resident of San Antonio, was captured on surveillance video provided by the San Antonio Police Department Fusion Unit. According to the incident report, Lutzenberger was waiting in line to enter the voting area wearing a red “MAGA” or “TRUMP” baseball cap. Upon being instructed by workers to remove his cap while inside the voting site, he complied.
However, moments later, Lutzenberger was observed exiting the voting area and putting his baseball cap back on as he approached the front doors. When the election clerk asked him to remove his hat again, Lutzenberger allegedly struck the worker multiple times in the chest and facial area with his fist, causing pain and discomfort.
Witnesses at the scene reported that Lutzenberger was accompanied by his wife, who urged him to stop. They further stated that they saw Lutzenberger physically assault the election clerk before leaving the premises.
Following the incident, Lutzenberger was taken into custody and processed by a magistrate the next morning. He now faces a charge of felony injury to a child, elderly, or disabled individual, according to Bexar County records. Lutzenberger was subsequently released on a $30,000 bond.
