Susanna Reid swipes at Boris Johnson as he asks ‘Who's Lorraine?’ amid GMB grilling

Susanna Reid swiped at Boris Johnson this morning after he asked her who Lorraine Kelly was after the Good Morning Britain presenter ended her explosive interview with the PM.

As the grilling came to a close, Susanna thanked the Prime Minister for the sit-down interview in Downing Street.

She said: “It’s good to talk to you. Lorraine is waiting to take up all the issues that you have brought up in this interview. Thank you very much indeed.”

But Boris replied asking “Who’s Lorraine?”, as he appeared unaware that Good Morning Britain is followed by the Scottish presenter’s programme on ITV.

Susanna quickly replied saying: “Lorraine’s a legend.”

The PM was due to appear on the programme at 8.15am but was late (ITV)

Lorraine, who has hosted her ITV daytime show for years after a long career in presenting, was then seen in her ITV studio looking slightly taken aback.

She did not address the PM’s comments, saying: “Wow. Thank you Susanna. A masterclass in a political interview. Excellent stuff.”

Those watching at home couldn’t believe Boris did not know who the high-profile host was, taking to Twitter to comment on the bizarre moment.

One wrote: “Oh Boris what a way to end your man of the people interview with GMB’s Susanna Reid.”

A second commented: “Imagine that the words “who is Lorraine?” Would bring down Johnson? More importantly as he panicked who was he expecting?”

While a third tweeted: “’Who’s Lorraine’ was the funniest bit, do think he thought she was coming on GMB.”

And a fourth added: “Who’s #lorraine? (Loses British public…) Oh Boris what will we do with you?! Well done.”

The PM's spokesman was later asked about the faux pas and said: “I think as was clear, the Prime Minister was not fully across ITV’s daytime line-up this morning. You will appreciate he has a number of issues to deal with on his desk.”

The interview marked the first time since he and other government ministers were accused of boycotting the series (ITV)

The moment came after a tense interview, in which the GMB TV presenter quizzed the PM on everything from Partygate to allegations in the House of Commons of bullying and sexism, as well as the ongoing cost of living crisis.

Susanna raised the possibility of a windfall tax on the energy company profits, saying: "It doesn't help people right now who are paying their energy bills - which have gone up hundreds - to be told we need to leave that money to the energy companies, because they need to invest.

"That's their job. Your job is to help people pay your bills."

The PM replied: "What we're doing is helping people with the cost of energy," but Susanna cut in saying: "You've offered people a loan they have to pay back."

Boris responded: "I accept that those contributions from the taxpayer aren't going to be enough immediately to help cover everybody's cost. Of course that isn't going to be enough immediately to help cover everybody's cost."

Susanna then said: "So you acknowledge you are not doing everything that you can," to which the PM admitted: "There is more that we can do. The crucial thing is to make sure we deal with the prices over the medium and long term."

Susanna then said: "When you say you're doing everything we can, you're not being honest are you, because you've just said there's more you can do."

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV.
