Susanna Reid suffers ITV Good Morning Britain 'crisis' as Ed Balls outs 'cover-up job'

Susanna Reid joked there was a 'cover-up job' on Good Morning Britain as Ed Balls outed her mishap live on the show. The pair were back at the helm of the ITV news programme on Wednesday (March 1) and after kicking off with the latest headlines, Ed wasted no time in letting viewers know what was happening just as they went to air.

The former Labour MP-turned-TV host commented: "It's amazing what you can do, in terms of activity in an outfit, and still manage to emerge serene." He then pointed towards a brooch attached to his co-host's smart red dress, before Susanna laughed and asked: "What are you referring to?"

Now forced into explaining all, the 52-year-old presenter went on: "Oh yeah, I had a bit of an outfit, wardrobe crisis this morning. I put an outfit on that seemed to blend into the background, so the director with two minutes to spare said, “Is there anything else in your wardrobe?"

She added: "So, at two minutes to six, nipped into the wardrobe, found this, didn’t realise it needed a bit more buttoning up," before laughing. Revealing more about what was really going on behind-the-scenes, Ed replied: "I’ve never ever read a news headline from the autocue while simultaneously trying to unzip you from the back!"

"There was a team of eight," he then joked, suggesting a few people were involved in getting Susanna TV-ready. But Susanna was quick to clarify: "There wasn’t a team of eight! A team of one." She then added: "It was a last minute cover-up job!"

Susanna's mishap comes after she spoke to The Sunday Times magazine for an article in which she revealed her daily routine. She offered the publication a rundown of what an average day looks like for her, which begins with a 3.40am wake-up call from her alarm clock. She revealed that she gives herself five minutes in bed to check through her emails and the days' headlines before getting up to begin her day.

The mum-of-three said that the start of her day is quite rushed as she throws on a coat over her pyjamas and brushes her teeth before getting into the car, which has been sent to her home in order to take her to the ITV studio in time for her appearance on GMB.

But she doesn't catch a few extra winks while making her 25-minute journey to the London-based studio. She instead uses the time by reading through the newspapers and her briefs of the interviewees due on the show that day while also taking time to look over the stories that the researchers and producers have been putting together overnight for the show.

And while it is quite early, the schedule works for Susanna. "My three boys split their time between myself and my ex. The brilliant thing about my job is that so much of my working day is when they're still sleeping and I'm already at home by the time they're back from school or work," she said.

Once she's made it to work, Susanna sits down to have her hair and make-up done and sips on her first coffee of the day at 4.25. She also spends time catching up on any reading for the show before being joined by GMB's overnight editor for the show as well as her co-presenter for that day.

But with no time to eat during that time, viewers may end up catching Susanna snacking on some apple or sunflower seeds during the ad breaks. And as her working day finishes quite early, with GMB over by 9am, she usually goes home, takes a nap, and then prepares some lunch.
