Susanna Reid suffered a 'crisis' on Good Morning Britain minutes before the show went to air on Wednesday, with the backstage 'drama' exposed to viewers at home by her colleague Ed Balls
A regular contributor to GMB since the fraught departure of Piers Morgan two years ago, former Shadow Chancellor of the Exchequer Ed, was back alongside long-serving presenter Susanna for another day. And it didn't take long for him to lift the lid on something that happened before cameras started rolling, with Susanna's outfit forcing GMB bosses into a last ditch change.
Moments into the three hour live broadcast, Ed quipped: "It's amazing what you can do, in terms of activity in an outfit, and still manage to emerge serene."
Ads Ed gestured to the brooch on the red dress Susanna was wearing, she replied: "What are you referring to?"
Backed into a corner by her co-host, Susanna then came clean on exactly what happened, explaining: "Oh yeah, I had a bit of an outfit, wardrobe crisis this morning. I put an outfit on that seemed to blend into the background, so the director with two minutes to spare said, “Is there anything else in your wardrobe?"
Revealing just how right to the wire things went and as a shot of what she originally had on flashed up on screen, Susanna continued: "So, at two minutes to six, nipped into the wardrobe, found this, didn’t realise it needed a bit more buttoning up."
After 'outing' Susanna's wardrobe 'malfunction,' Ed was then shut down by her when he took a jealous swipe at colleague Andi Peters later on in the show.
While Andi joined them during the course of the three hour live broadcast,. he wasn't with his colleagues in the studio,. but in the much sunnier climes of Tenerife.
As he often does on the ITV show, Andi appeared to reveal details of a new competition but the reason for him having to do the job from the Canary Islands seemed to irk Ed,
Introducing the former CBBC star, Ed remarked: "Andi Peters, who is bizarrely in Tenerife!" Former Strictly star Ed then added: "What's he doing in Tenerife? Why is hew there?" as Susanna snapped back: "Why is it bizarre? It's sunny, it's gorgeous and, frankly, who could blame him?"
