Susanna Reid went missing from the latest episode of Good Morning Britain after cutting short her break in order to host the show earlier this week. The presenter ditched her half-term plans to set up camp in Downing Street after it was announced that Rishi Sunak is the new Prime Minister.
Susanna joined Kate Garraway and more of their GMB co-stars on the red carpet for the Pride of Britain Awards on Monday night after she returned to the show despite planning on being off with her sons this week.
"I'm supposed to be on half-term. Then tomorrow morning [Tuesday] I'll be back in Downing Street. When news breaks that's where you want to be as a journalist. There's no leave for the wicked at the moment," she told The Mirror at the inspirational event, which is set to air on ITV on Thursday (October 27).
But during her appearance on Tuesday's edition of the ITV news programme (October 25), Susanna was hit by 'rude' claims.
Susanna was situated outside No 10 on the day that Liz Truss' resignation was officially accepted by King Charles III before Mr Sunak swept in and was formally invited to form a government by the new monarch.
She was interviewing Victoria Atkins, a Tory MP who served as Minister of State for Prisons and Probation and Minister for Afghan Resettlement from 2021 to 2022, who was at another location when the cameras showed serving Chancellor Jeremy Hunt entering No 10.
While Victoria was mid-sentence, Susanna interrupted her interviewee to shout to Mr Hunt, "will you keep your job, Mr Hunt?" as Victoria kept talking. Susanna quickly turned back to the camera and apologised, adding: "You were making an important point about the new Prime Minister's family values."
Susanna explained she wanted to draw viewer's attention to the fact that Mr Hunt had entered No 10. Then, Tory leadership contestant Penny Mourdant made her way to No 10, leading Susanna to shout to her, "Penny Mourdant, what words have you got for Liz Truss on her final day?"
But GMB viewers were quick to take to social media to air their disapproval of the awkward interview moment. And as viewers tuned into the show on Wednesday, they will have noted that Susanna was nowhere to be seen as Richard Madeley and Kate Garraway returned to the hot seat.
While @JamesDawson911 tweeted: "#gmb so Susanna is on holiday AGAIN but she come back for 1 morning to stand outside no10. Why bother," @Chriskaxo said disappointedly "Can’t believe there’s no Susanna Reid the day I wake up early #gmb."
