Susanna Reid clashes with Northern Ireland's Secretary of State in heated debate

Susanna Reid did not hold back on Tuesday's Good Morning Britain as she interviewed Northern Ireland's Secretary of State Brandon Lewis.

Mother-of-three Susanna was joined by co-host Richard Madeley as she grilled the politician on the ITV breakfast show.

The duo were keen to speak to Mr Lewis about the cost of living crisis and the warning of 'apocalyptic' food prices.

Susanna told him: "The trouble is we are experiencing a cost of living crisis that's due to get worse because of inflation....

"You mentioned the Northern Ireland protocol... Our reporter this morning has been talking about a particular guitar company and it really illustrates the issue of exporters in Northern Ireland trying to get their goods to customers.

"Because of the paperwork, it takes 90 days for them to get a guitar to a customer on the British Mainland, whereas it takes three days to get that guitar to a customer in the Netherlands. We've sort of hobbled ourselves haven't we?"

Mr Lewis quickly replied: "I don't know that particular case but you've just outlined in reality the very challenge we want to resolve..."

Laughing sarcastically at his response, Susanna fired back: "A challenge you put into place Mr Lewis!"

However, the MP was having none of it and told her: "No Susanna, that's not correct!

"Look, let's be very clear about this, we have agreed a protocol that says in it's running paper, very clearly, it's vision is it won't disrupt the every day lives of people in their communities, it will respect all aspects of the Good Friday agreement, it will respect the UK internal market and state functions as well as the EU signal market.

"Well, the implementation that the EU wants put in place breaches four of those things straight off the bat and that is just something that isn't sustainable," Mr Lewis continued.

"We've got to ensure that products moving within the UK can do so freely and ensure that goods are moving into the EU via Ireland, obviously are properly dealt with," he added, as Richard hurried him along.

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV and ITV Hub.
