Susanna Reid 'at complete loss' how Prince Andrew bath mock-up discredits accuser's claim

Susanna Reid and Richard Madeley weighed in on a bizarre photo released by Ghislaine Maxwell’s family showing two people in the bath where the Duke of York was alleged to have abused Virginia Giuffre.

Maxwell’s brother has said the picture, which shows two people clothed and wearing masks depicting Prince Andrew and his accuser, discredits Ms Guiffre’s claims.

Ms Giuffre has claimed that Andrew raped and abused her three times in 2001 when she was 17, which he denies, alleging that one of the incidents started in the pictured bath at Maxwell’s west London home.

Yet while Maxwell’s older brother Ian has claimed the released photo proves the bath is too small for the alleged incident to have taken place, Good Morning Britain host Susanna doubted the assertion.

The ITV morning show discussed the photo, with the host labelling it ‘a very odd one’.

She said: “It shows two people in the bath where the Duke of York was alleged to have abused Virginia Guiffre.

“Ghislaine Maxwell’s brother believes that it discredits Virginia Guiffre’s claims. It’s very odd, because Virginia Guiffre says that they were in the bath together.

“This setup, this mock up, that the two people have done wearing masks, which is supposed to recreate that they were in the bath together – I have no idea what it recreates other than it’s clearly a bath big enough for two people to be in.”

She added: “In what sense it discredits Virginia Giuffre – I think most people looking at it would be at a complete loss.”

Susanna’s co-host Richard later said he agrees with her on the photo, adding: “If you’re going to say the bath is too small for two people to sit in it, then you have a photograph presumably that demonstrates you can only get one person in it.

“To say this bath is too small and to prove that with a picture of two people in the bath, it seems to me bonkers. It just makes no sense at all.”

Mr Maxwell claimed that the image ‘conclusively’ shows that the bath is too small for any sort of ‘sex frolicking’ to have taken place as alleged.

Maxwell last week repeated her claim that the photo showing Ms Giuffre at 17 with the royal’s arm around her was a fake (PA)

Mr Maxwell released the photo after reports emerged that the Duke of York was planning to launch a legal bid to overturn the multimillion-pound settlement with Ms Giuffre.

Disgraced socialite Maxwell was jailed for 20 years in 2022 after being found guilty of helping the late disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein traffic and abuse young girls between 1994 and 2004.

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV.
