Susanna Reid didn't waste any time in calling out Richard Madeley for his 'deception' on the latest episode of Good Morning Britain. The pair were reunited on-screen as they hosted the second edition of the ITV news programme of the week.
In a move away from the latest news headlines and entertainment news, Richard opened up about how he met his former This Morning co-star wife Judy Finnigan - and it was rather unusual.
The 66-year-old said he had Judy, 74, met when they were both reporting on a Rubik's Cube - yes, really. Richard began by explaining: "I wouldn’t be here, you know, if it wasn’t for Rubik's Cube. My life would have taken a completely different turn.
"I was doing a report on a Rubik's Cube conference at York University when I was at Yorkshire Television, I was a reporter. I did the old trope piece to camera that you do with Rubik's, where you have one that’s all jumbled up.
"As you're doing the piece to camera, you drop it and pick up one that’s been pre-prepared and you bring it back into shot and you make the joke that obviously you’ve done it in a few seconds."
But Susanna was less than impressed with his story. "That’s… deception! In your reporting, Richard Madeley?" the 51-year-old told him as he was quick to hit back: "Well no, no, it’s obviously a joke! And you say something like, 'I’m all fingers and thumbs, that took me three seconds today!'
"And I did that, it got picked up by ITN, it was run on News At 10 and it was spotted by the boss of Granada Television, who offered me a job on the strength of it and I met Judy. And that was it - which led to a proposal!"
Back in April, Richard and Judy opened up about their relationship after Richard previously compared their relationship to being "semi-detached" as they move in different paths professionally. However, in an interview on Kate Thornton’s White Wine Question Time podcast, they confirmed they have not grown apart in their marriage.
When quizzed on how they’ve managed to stay together personally after working more separately, Judy explained: We are incredibly close, we always have been. Obviously, I think working together for so long has bonded us more tightly than if we had two completely separate jobs. I think the thing is, when you’re a presenting a show like the kind that we presented, it’s very instinctive, you’re doing interviews all the time."
