Susanna Reid absent from Good Morning Britain after viewers say she was 'rude' to guest

Susanna Reid appears to have returned to her holiday today as she was nowhere to be seen on this morning's Good Morning Britain (GMB), after she cut short her break to present from Downing Street on Tuesday.

The presenter had sacrificed her holiday plans so she could report on Rishi Sunak becoming Prime Minister. But after an interview in Downing Street with Conservative MP Victoria Atkins, she was accused by some viewers of being rude to her guest, Manchester Evening News reports.

On Monday night, Susanna appeared alongside Kate Garraway and other GMB stars on the red carpet at the Pride of Britain awards, and explained why she was returning to the show this week despite having meant to be away with her sons. She told The Mirror: "I'm supposed to be on half-term. Then tomorrow morning [Tuesday] I'll be back in Downing Street.

"When news breaks that's where you want to be as a journalist. There's no leave for the wicked at the moment."

The following morning she was standing outside No 10 on the day that Liz Truss formally handed her resignation as Prime Minister to the King, allowing Rishi Sunak to take the top job. During the morning show, she interviewed Ms Atkins, who served as Minister of State for Prisons and Probation and Minister for Afghan Resettlement from 2021 to 2022.

Part-way through the conversation with the MP, who was at a different location, the camera showed Chancellor Jeremy Hunt entering No 10. Susanna interrupted Ms Atkins to shout: "Will you keep your job Mr Hunt?"

The presenter quickly turned back to the camera and apologised, adding: "You were making an important point about the new Prime Minister's family values." Ms Atkins appeared not to mind, laughing as Susanna said sorry for interrupting.

The presenter explained that she was trying to draw viewers' attention to the fact that Mr Hunt had entered No 10. Then, as Tory leadership candidate Penny Mordaunt walked along Downing Street, Susanna called out: "Penny Mordaunt, what words have you got for Liz Truss on her final day?"

Some GMB viewers felt Susanna shouldn't have interrupted her interviewee to shout questions at the politicians entering Downing Street. @Fibutton said that calling out questions at Mr Hunt and Ms Mordaunt during the interview was "a bit rude" and OutlawP1951 added: "Susanna Reid mentions clown music being played outside Downing Street & then proceeds to bellow questions at members of the cabinet knowing they won’t answer #GMB The irony is lost on her."

@biffasam tweeted: "#GMB Dreadful behaviour from Suzanna Reid". And @MichelleBeau3 wrote: "Shocking! How disrespectful to the person she was interviewing!"

This morning, viewers found that Susanna was not on hosting duties, having possibly returned to her half term family break. @ @JamesDawson911 tweeted: "#gmb so Susanna is on holiday AGAIN but she come back for 1 morning to stand outside no10. Why bother."

But @Chriskaxo seemed disappointed not to see the presenter, tweeting: "Can’t believe there’s no Susanna Reid the day I wake up early #gmb."
