Susan Smith, the South Carolina woman serving a life sentence for drowning her two young sons in 1994, has recently been described as a 'complete nightmare' by prison staff. Smith, now 53 years old, was denied parole in November after spending 30 years behind bars.
According to sources at the Leath Correctional Institution, Smith's demeanor has drastically changed. Previously cooperative and pleasant, she is now reported to be rude and difficult to deal with. Some believe that her earlier behavior was merely an act to secure her release from prison.
In 1994, Smith infamously strapped her sons, 3-year-old Michael and 14-month-old Alexander, into her car and let it roll into a lake, where they drowned. She was convicted of their murders in 1995 and sentenced to life in prison.
Recently, Smith faced disciplinary action for communicating with a filmmaker, a violation of prison rules. This incident marked her first disciplinary action in almost a decade. During her parole hearing, Smith expressed remorse for her actions, acknowledging the gravity of her crime and the pain she caused.
Her ex-husband, David Smith, also attended the hearing and advocated against her release, emphasizing that Susan's actions were intentional and not a tragic mistake.
The parole board ultimately denied Susan Smith's parole, citing the severity of her crime and her history of offenses while incarcerated. Despite her emotional plea for forgiveness, Smith remains behind bars, serving her life sentence for the tragic loss of her two young sons.
