Surprise transfer twist offers hope over double deal for Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest’s pursuit of Huddersfield Town duo Lewis O’Brien and Harry Toffolo appears to have taken another twist.

An on-off saga sees a move for the Terriers pair now back on again, according to our sister site YorkshireLive. Talks are said to be “moving again” and the deals “look likely” to go ahead.

It comes after a swoop for left-back Toffolo and midfielder O’Brien seemed to have broken down. Reports suggested a deal for the former had collapsed due to an issue over personal terms, and that had a knock-on effect for his teammate because it was arranged as a £10m double transfer.

The situation could change again, however. Anything can happen in the transfer window.

Both the centre of the pitch and left wing-back are areas boss Steve Cooper wants to strengthen ahead of the step up to the top-flight. Seven new additions have been brought in so far, with an eighth - Brandon Aguilera - heading straight back out on loan.

Cooper spoke of needing to pick up the pace of transfer business again, when quizzed after Saturday’s 0-0 friendly draw at Barnsley. Asked if any arrivals were close, he said: "I really hope so. There's no doubt we need it.

"As we've spoken about before, there was always going to be a turnaround with the squad, because of the make-up of the squad last year, in terms of loans. In some areas, I think we've done really well and strengthened. In other areas, it's been slow - and we've got to change that quickly.

"Of course we need more players to come in, there's no doubt about that. That's slowed down a little bit, and we've got to make sure that doesn't stay like that for too long.”
