Surprise return transfer plotted as Steve Cooper faces Nottingham Forest issue

Good morning, Reds fans! Here are your latest Nottingham Forest headlines from NottinghamshireLive.

Nottingham Forest hero Brice Samba in Everton transfer link ahead of January

Former Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Brice Samba is reportedly attracting interest from several Premier league clubs ahead of the January transfer window.

The play-off hero ended his three-year stint at the City Ground with a surprise move to Lens, following Forest ’s promotion to the Premier League. Since returning to France, the 28-year-old has been in formidable form for the Ligue 1 side, who currently sit second in the table.

Samba has conceded a remarkable ten goals in 15 league games for his new side, just one more than league leaders PSG. He was tipped for a late call-up to the France World Cup and, despite missing out, has been linked with a return to England in January, though not with Steve Cooper ’s side.

Martin O'Neill slams player power as 'broken' Nottingham Forest promise still hurts

Martin O'Neill was still in his office at the City Ground when the new Nottingham Forest manager was announced.

Sabri Lamouchi would soon be placing family photos on the desk which had been O'Neill's for just five months as a 19-game spell in charge came to an end in the summer of 2019. It was an inauspicious end to an inauspicious stint in the hotseat once occupied by Brian Clough, the man he won a league title and two European Cups under.

O'Neill is one of the Miracle Men, but his return to the club as manager in January 2019 heralded a final chapter to his Forest story which still rancours, even if O'Neill jokes about the manner of his successor being announced now having felt owner Evangelos Marinakis would give him longer.

Steve Cooper faces same issue as Chelsea to overcome Forest challenge

Nottingham Forest may have turned a corner under Steve Cooper but are still facing an uphill battle on a different type of league table.

The Reds went on an unbelievable run ro regain their top-flight status, losing two of their last 16 league games before earning a spot in the Premier League through the play-offs at Wembley. With many players reaching the end of their contracts and loan players being returned, a major transfer overhaul was needed in the summer and resulted in 22 new arrivals at the City Ground.

After a rocky opening few weeks, Forest have begun to find their feet, with the Reds losing just one of their last six games across all competitions to league leaders Arsenal and are point away from safety. Despite their upturn in form, though, Cooper ’s are languishing at the bottom of a unique league table.
