Surprise relegation prediction made as Nottingham Forest given FA punishment

Keys’ Forest rant

Richard Keys has said Nottingham Forest boss Steve Cooper is "working in a madhouse atmosphere" at the Reds this season.

Cooper masterminded a remarkable revival at Forest last season which saw them rise from the bottom of the Championship to a triumphant return to English football's top flight through the play-offs.

But the Reds are in real danger of dropping back down to the second tier as they currently sit in the bottom three on goal difference. They have failed to win in their last 10 matches, having last tasted victory back in February against Leeds.

Forest given FA fine

Nottingham Forest have been fined after their players surrounded referee Chris Kavanagh during the Reds 1-1 against Wolves earlier this month.

Steve Cooper's side have been handed a £55,000 fine by the Football Association (FA) as a result of the incident on Saturday, April 1.

The Forest players reacted after Kavanagh waved away a potential handball from Wolves defender Nelson Semedo.

An FA Spokesperson said: “ Nottingham Forest FC has been fined £55,000 after its players surrounded a match official during the 40th minute of the Premier League game against Wolverhampton Wanderers FC on Saturday 1 April 2023.”

Owen’s relegation fight prediction

Former Premier League striker Michael Owen is the latest pundit to deliver his prediction over the three teams who will be relegated this season.

The pundit has predicted Forest to just beat rivals Leicester City to safety. He did however seem undecided between the two teams when selecting the third side to go down this season.

Forest currently sit in 18th place in the Premier League table, but are only in the bottom three on goal difference. The Reds fell to a 2-0 defeat against Manchester United in their last outing, but Leicester’s defeat to Man City just under 24 hours earlier saw them maintain a two point gap above the Foxes in 19th.

Klopp’s Forest challenge

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has challenged his squad to "build on" a big win over Leeds United, starting against Nottingham Forest this weekend.

Liverpool came out 6-1 winners at Elland Road, with four goals in the second half making it a comfortable evening for Klopp’s side. Cody Gakpo, Mo Salah (x2), Diogo Jota (x2) and Darwin Nunez were all on the scoresheet in a result that may have done Forest a favour in the race for Premier League survival.

But Steve Cooper ’s men now travel to Anfield to take on a Liverpool side full of confidence. The win was the side’s first in five in all competitions, although they did come back from 2-0 down to draw with Arsenal last weekend.
