Surprise Nottingham Forest 'interest' in Liverpool transfer emerges as deal close to being done

Nottingham Forest have been linked with Liverpool midfielder James Milner, but it seems he already has a move lined up.

According to 90min, the Reds “are interested” in the 37-year-old, with relegation rivals Leeds United and Everton also said to be keen. All three sides are said to want the player to wait until the end of the campaign to assess his options, at which point he will be a free agent.

Milner’s Anfield deal runs out in the summer and he appears to have no shortage of suitors as an eight-year spell on Merseyside comes to an end. However, a move to Brighton and Hove Albion looks to be on the cards.

GOAL report the former England international will head for the south coast once his contract expires. They add that the Seagulls have “beaten off competition” from at least three other clubs, with Championship winners Burnley identified as one. The deal is described as “virtually complete”.

For Forest, much of what happens in the summer will depend on which division they find themselves in. They have some big decisions to make with regards to players coming to the end of their contracts, and the transfer window is likely to see incomings and outgoings.

Whether they be planning for another season in the Premier League or plotting a promotion push in the Championship, the squad will need assessing. Any overhaul will not be on the same scale as that seen last summer, however, when 29 signings were made ahead of the Reds’ return to the top-flight.

Steve Cooper’s side have four games left to try to retain their Premier League status. They are in the bottom three on goal difference and have a crucial game at home to Southampton on Monday night.
