Konate missing from training

Liverpool players were put through their paces on Friday afternoon ahead of Sunday's massive clash against Manchester City.

The Reds will welcome City to Anfield looking to close a 13-point gap, with Jurgen Klopp's side winning just two of their opening eight Premier League games - their worst start for a decade.

Klopp had hinted during his pre-match press conference on Friday morning he was still waiting to discover who had come through unscathed from Wednesday's win at Ibrox, and the notable absence of Konate from the session at Kirkby was one of four key takeaways.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Curtis Jones continued their rehabilitation on the turf, while several of the under-21s made the step-up to work with the first-team.

Lallana's brutal dig at Neville

Adam Lallana delivered a brutal on-air joke at the expense of Gary Neville ahead of Brighton's 2-0 defeat at Brentford in the Premier League on Friday evening.

The former Liverpool midfielder, who started the bench for Roberto De Zerbi's side, joined the Sky Sports team before kick-off and was asked about his brief spell as the Seagulls' assistant head coach following the sudden departure of Graham Potter.

Discussing his brief taste of operating as a coach to Jamie Carragher and Neville, he told Sky Sports: "I was fortunate enough a couple of weeks ago to dip my toes into it. It's something I thoroughly enjoyed.

"It's different, longer hours and you don't understand how much work goes into it - you obviously found that out as well," he joked to Neville regarding his disastrous spell in charge of Valencia.

"I was very fortunate to be given that opportunity. I've still probably got a year or two left in me [as a player], but it is something I think I will go into."
