Desi nights have proven rather popular in Dublin over the past couple of years, with attendance at these nights telling of the huge demand there is for them in the city.
Urban Desi nights was one of those events which took place in Vela Restaurant and Bar in Lucan, attracting enthusiastic crowds who craved the type of music that isn't normally played in Dublin nightclubs. One of the people behind bringing the event together was Director of Articulate Digital Business Vandita Agarwal. Vandita is prominent in Ireland's Desi scene and is even working on a unique dating app to help fellow immigrants to Ireland make meaningful connections after moving here.
She told Dublin Live: "There is a huge demand for these kinds of events in Dublin. In Ireland, there is almost 90,000 South Asian immigrants for various purposes, whether it's work or study.

"When we talk about the activities and opportunities for them to spend their disposable income, they don't have enough things to do and ways to mingle with their own community.
"Doing these nights and giving them the opportunity to mingle and make connections is a great way forward."
As part of her mission to help fellow South Asian immigrants connect with each other, Vandita also plans to host regular Desi nights going forward, much of which will involve DJ Shubs, one of the only female Desi DJs in Ireland.
Speaking to Dublin Live, DJ Shubs, who has played in venues like Fibber McGee's, said: "I have one lined up at The Button Factory in Temple Bar on July 8. There will be Desi music, mainstream pop music and reggaeton music.
"These nights are hugely popular. There are a lot of Indians in Dublin as well as in Ireland. They look for their own music and clubs playing it."
Meanwhile, founder of Bollywood DJs Ireland Gladi Singh previously told Dublin Live: "We've hosted many nights like this before all over the place. We've done The Well, Club 22 and Pygmalion, that's where we started."
