Surf operator The Wave appoints new chief executive

Surf park operator The Wave has appointed a new chief executive.

The Wave, which was established by social entrepreneur Nick Hounsfield in 2019, has welcomed Hazel Geary to the team. Ms Geary joins the inland surf destination from HJG Solutions, where she held the position of managing director.

Ms Geary has international experience in the leisure, retail and hospitality industries, having returned to the UK in 2019 from three years in India as the managing director of a joint venture between David Lloyd Leisure and Talwalkars. There she was responsible for all company operations, including the construction and launch of a health and leisure club.

For the past three years, Hazel has been working with small to medium-sizes businesses in the health, leisure, wellness and beauty industries, at HJG Solutions, helping them to scale, launch new concepts and turnaround operational challenges.

In a statement on LinkedIn The Wave said: "Hazel’s passion for sustainability and commitment to protecting our planet align perfectly with our values here at The Wave. We’re excited that under her leadership, we will continue to deliver the positive power of water and waves for people of all backgrounds, ages and abilities.

"Please join us in extending a warm welcome to Hazel as she embarks on this new ride with us."

In April The Wave announced plans to create a solar and energy storage array at its facility near Bristol. The £3.2m project, will include a range of solar PV modules installed across the site, plus a solar canopy over part of the car park and a solar 'Smartflower', which will act as an engaging renewable energy educational tool for visitors.
