SURAT THANI: The southern tourist province will welcome its first international chartered flight since the pandemic, which will land with about 180 visitors from Taiwan.

Surat Thani governor Wichawut Jinto said on Sunday that the fully booked Thai Lion Air flight SL-7391 from Taiwan would arrive at Surat Thani airport on Monday evening.

"It will be the first international chartered flight to arrive in Surat Thani for the three years since the Covid-19 pandemic began. It is a good start for the tourism revival. This group of foreign tourists will experience famous places and foods of Surat Thani province and will tell their stories to other foreign tourists," the governor said.

Nanthawan Siriphokhaphat, Surat Thani director of the Tourism Authority of Thailand, said Surat Thani would warmly welcome the group of visitors to show that the province, as a top international tourist destination, was ready to accommodate visitors.

The group would stay in the province for five days and four nights. They would visit attractions on the mainland of Surat Thani and visit local islands, including Ang Thong, as well as Samui, Tao and Nang Yuan islands before returning to Taipei, she said.
