Supervet Noel Fitzpatrick pays heartbreaking tribute to late mother on first anniversary of death

Television’s Supervet Professor Noel Fitzpatrick has paid tribute to his late mother on the first anniversary since she passed away.

The famous veterinary surgeon often spoke about his mother Rita, describing her as one of his closest friends on his Channel 4 show The Supervet.

Mrs Fitzpatrick passed away in Mountmellick, Co Laois on February 2 last year at the age of 92.

On his official Facebook page, the Laois man said: “Today marks a year since you passed mammy. I love you. I miss you every day.

“You shine on in every sunrise and every beam of starlight. Thank you so much for your light.”

He regularly travelled home to visit her and Mrs Fitzpatrick also appeared in an episode of the show. She was predeceased by her husband Seán in 2006.

Speaking after her death the popular vet said: “I loved my mammy beyond words. She believed in me when nobody else did and encouraged me late at night with my studies when I felt all alone.

“Mammy was never one for grand gestures. It was never about her but rather about what she could do for you. She elevated everyone with her kindness, compassion, empathy and bright wit.

“Her humility in the face of her greatness is an example to all of us”.

Mr Fitzpatrick is one of six children.
