Supernatural actress Nicki Aycox dies aged 47 as show's creator pays tribute

Actress Nicki Aycox has died at the age of 47, her sister-in-law has announced.

The star, who was diagnosed with leukaemia in 2020, was best known for her recurring role in hit series Supernatural where she played the role of Meg Masters between 2006 and 2008.

During her time on the show, she starred in a number of scenes alongside Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki.

Her death was announced in a social media post by sister-in-law Susan Raab Ceklosky. She wrote on Facebook: "My beautiful, smart, fierce, incredibly talented, and loving sister-in-law, Nicki Aycox Raab, passed away yesterday with my brother, Matt Raab, by her side.

"Nicki and Matt had a wonderful life together in California. She was definitely a fighter and everyone who knew her loved her."

Following the sad news, Supernatural creator Erik Kripke also shared a heartfelt statement. Taking to Twitter, he penned: "Gutted to hear the great #NickiAycox, our first #MegMasters, passed away. Too young.

"She was a delight & delivered lines like honey & venom. I marvel at how she made a simple word like ‘lackluster’ legendary."

Fans were quick to pay their own respects on the post, with one user writing: "We will never forget her. It was to early to go [sic]." They included emojis showing a broken heart and crying face.

Another said: "Meg was so deceptively & diabolically dangerous. Then when we saw the human Meg ghost in Are You There, God? It's Me, Dean Winchester she was so sweet & vulnerable. Nicki gave us all the flavors & it was exquisite to watch her perform. @RealNickiAycox was a treasure. So tragic."

Away from the Supernatural series, Nicki also featured on a string of other popular TV series, including Cold Case, Law & Order, USA High, Ally McBeal, The X-Files and Boy Meets World.

On the big screen, she played parts in blockbusters such as Jeepers Creepers 2 and Perfect Stranger. Her last credit came in 2014 when she played the part of Danielle Williams in Dead On Campus.
