Supermarket helps out Lanarkshire school kids with pre-loved uniforms thanks to generous donations

A Lanarkshire Lanarkshire is helping out kids going back to school with their pre-loved uniforms initiative.

Morrisons in Cambuslang set up the recycled uniforms station within the store where families can pick up donated items for free before term resumes on August 17.

The idea has proved very popular already as hundreds of donations have been dropped off in recent weeks, and just as many locals requiring uniforms have relied on the service too.

August can be an expensive time for local families as children require a number of essentials for schools returning after the summer holidays.

This year has been particularly difficult as the well-documented surge in living costs continue to rise.

The aim of the pre-loved uniforms bank in the shop is to alleviate any pressures families may have before school returns next week.

Hundreds of generous donations have filled up clothing rails located at the bottom of the checkouts.

These include numerous items such as shirts, skirts and trousers, as well as shoes and school bags.

People have also decided to purchase essential items new such as socks and underwear which has been a huge help for local families.

You can also donate stationery, pencil cases and anything else kids may require for the classrooms.

The store's community champion Nicola O'Brien says the station has been very busy and hopes it can help out as many people as possible.

She added: "I saw a few other community champions run this in different areas and knew it would be popular here.

"It's been very important this year, definitely, with the current cost of living and it's been very popular with stuff coming in and it's gone out just as quick as well.

"It will obviously be run until the end of this week and schools going back but we will keep it open until the end of August in case there is still things people need in the next few weeks.

"If anyone is bringing in we just ask that it is clean and in good condition.

"The stuff coming in has ranged from clothing, school bags, shoes, pencil cases and lunch bags. People have also brought in socks and underwear which has been bought in pockets so you can also buy things in store to donate."

You can find out more about the initiative and ask any questions on the Morrisons Cambuslang Facebook page.
