Superfit veteran aged 90 still performs somersaults on trampoline as regular hobby

A superfit ex para is still performing somersaults on the trampoline at the age of 90.

Tony Geraghty took up the hobby in 1992 after leaving the military.

He practices twice a week at his local club and has no plans to stop.

Grandfather-of-two Tony said: “I went along to a trampolining taster session about 30 years ago. As soon as I did a few jumps I was hooked.

“I love it. It helps me with my co-ordination and sense of balance – you tend to lose out of those as you get older.

“I took it up and have enjoyed doing it ever since. It is fun and good for you. I am happy to just bounce.

“I won’t stop. I won’t slow down. My wife and family support me in going.”

Tony, who also worked as a journalist after leaving the Forces, added: “After such a busy and active life, in the military, traveling the world and reporting, you need to keep going.”

Tony joined the Parachute Regiment in the 1950s and served during the Suez Crisis.

He also saw action in the first Gulf War while clocking up more than 40 years of service.

After leaving the Army Tony was determined to “do something to keep fit.”

Trampolining fitted the bill and he quickly learned tricks including front flips, back flips and spins.

Tony, who lives in Hope-in-Dinmore, Herefordshire, with his wife of 38-years, Gillian, 76, said: “I have enjoyed physical activity ever since I was a child.

“I survived the German blitz during the war in London in the 1940s.

“That, alongside being of the generation of believing in compulsory military service, made me aware of the need of keeping a good active life.

“I have not won any titles, or taken part in any national competitions, I just do it for the fun.”
