Supercomputer predicts Premier League title race outcome as Man City hold advantage over Arsenal

A supercomputer has given a fresh prediction on the ongoing Premier League title race between Arsenal and Manchester City. The Gunners hold a six-point lead over City heading into the final eight games of the season, but Pep Guardiola's side do have a game in hand.

Arsenal threw away a 2-0 lead against Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday afternoon, allowing City to close the gap down from eight points to six. Mikel Arteta's side still have to travel to the Etihad Stadium later this month in what could prove to be a title-deciding clash.

The reigning champions have already beaten the Gunners twice this season - once in the FA Cup and once in the league - but there involvement in cup competitions towards the end of the season could see their form drop off. City have been handed a boost in the title race following Arsenal's rearranged fixture against Chelsea as it now means Guardiola's side will play before the Gunners in four of the remaining seven game weeks of the season, giving them the chance to increase the pressure on the league leaders.

FiveThirtyEight's Premier League table supercomputer has now offered an updated prediction for how the title race will end - but it's not good news for Arsenal fans. The supercomputer has predicted City to win a fifth title in six years, finishing a single point ahead of the north London outfit.

City are projected to finish on 88 points with a goal difference of +63 - with a 60% chance of winning the title from their final nine fixtures. Arsenal have just a 40% chance on winning the title, despite being six points clear, and are projected to finish on 87 points with a goal difference of +48.

The supercomputer predicts that Arsenal will beat West Ham, Southampton, Chelsea, Brighton, Nottingham Forest and Wolves. However, the Gunners are projected to lose to City and either draw or suffer defeat against Newcastle at St. James' Park - highlighting the key games that Arteta must take wins from if they are to lift their first title since 2004.

The supercomputer predicts City to win all of their remaining fixtures in the Premier League, meaning it could all come down to the clash at the Etihad Stadium later this month.
