Supercomputer predicts Championship, League One and League Two promotion outcomes

Huddersfield, Luton, Nottingham Forest, and Sheffield United are the most likely teams to make the Championship play-offs, the Mirror's supercomputer has predicted.

Fulham have already booked their place in next season’s Premier League with their win over Preston North End rubber-stamping their spot in the top flight. It now looks like Bournemouth will be joining them. Our in-house supercomputer has given the Cherries a 96 per cent chance of finishing in the top two. Ironically, Scott Parker's side host the Cottagers on Saturday and although promotion cannot be clinched this weekend a home victory would go a long way to confirming their place.

Incidentally, Huddersfield and Nottingham Forest are each given a measly two per cent chance of pipping Bournemouth to second. When it comes to the play-off places Luton Town (99 per cent), Huddersfield (98 per cent), and Forest (97 per cent), are the teams most likely to make it.

Sheffield United have been given a 45 per cent chance of finishing in the top six, whilst plucky Millwall are at 32 per cent and Middlesbrough are given a 15 per cent chance. QPR are an outside tip at 5 per cent, followed by Blackburn at two per cent.

In League One, the promotion picture is far from clear. Nevertheless, Wigan are set to be crowned League One champions, with our in-house supercomputer giving them a 94 per cent chance of winning the league.

MK Dons are the favourites to join them in the Championship - despite taking one point from the last nine available - with a 52 per cent chance of making the top two, followed by Rotherham with a 37 per cent chance.

Sheffield Wednesday, Sunderland, Plymouth Argyle, and Rotherham are the most likely teams to make the League One play-offs but it is extremely tight with five teams separated by just four points.

In League Two, the number-crunchers predict Forest Green Rovers are set to be crowned League Two champions, with our in-house supercomputer giving them an 86 per cent chance of winning the league.

Exeter City are the favourites to join them in League One, with a 91 per cent chance of making the top three, followed by Port Vale with a 50 per cent chance and Bristol Rovers with a 29 per cent chance. Port Vale also have a 50 per cent chance of making the play-offs. Northampton Town, however, have an 81 per cent chance of finishing in the playoff spots. Sutton, who have enjoyed a superb maiden campaign in the EFL, have a 79 per cent chance, Bristol Rovers a 70 per cent chance, and Tranmere a 56 per cent chance.

Mansfield Town have an outside chance at 26 per cent, while Salford City are ranked at 15 per cent, and Swindon 11 per cent.
