There has been confusion around refunds for the Newcastle 500, with Supercars saying ticket holders can ask for their money back, but fans claim they've had no communication about this.
The Herald reported Tuesday that the Newcastle event was all but off the table this year with the Supercars race calendar already jam-packed, including Adelaide set to host the season finale.
The news dismayed some local fans, who received emails on January 24 when the March event was postponed due to COVID-19 saying ticket holders will be able to "request a full refund" once the new dates are announced.
Supercars told the Herald that ticket holders can either hold on to their tickets for when the race is rescheduled or request a refund, saying an email was sent out that stated: "If you hold tickets, you can request a refund, if this is something you would like to pursue, please go to the link as below (supercars.com) and click on Contact on bottom of the page in the black bar and select ticketing department when putting your request for a refund through."
But several fans said they haven't received this, or any correspondence saying they can now get a refund.
Jade Anderson said she bought three day passes for herself and her husband for Christmas, but now wants her money back.
"I was quite disappointed when they said it wasn't going to happen," Ms Anderson said. "And then I got an email saying 'we're going to hold the money until we work out a later date', then I read that now they're probably not going to come this year.
"Give us a refund. You're hanging on to $200 that we could do with, especially with the cost of living now that's going up. If they're not going to come all they need to say is here's your refund."
Ms Anderson said she said her family were all huge motorsport fans but the situation had made her "cranky" and tossing up whether to go to the event again.
"We're massive V8 fans," she said. "The whole family are actually very into V8s - Holden and Ford, so we're very competitive when it comes to it.
"We've been every time it's been here. Even before it was here in Sydney, we travelled down to the city for the weekend to go to it. We love it. We live for it to be honest."
"But we've been stuffed around this year. I'd prefer to get the money now and if it is going to go ahead next year, we'll buy tickets on the day and wait until it's actually going to go ahead."
