Superbike star Victor Steeman's mother dies from heart attack two days after son's death

The mother of tragic superbike star Victor Steeman has died from a heart attack just two days after her son's passing.

Steeman was killed aged just 22 after a horror crash at the FIM Supersport 300 World Championship Race 1 in Portugal last weekend.

He had been airlifted to Faro hospital with head injuries but passed away there with his family issuing an emotional statement, reading; "he could not win this last race."

Steeman's mother Flora van Limbeek was his biggest fan and tragically lost her life on Thursday following a suspected heart attack at the age of 59.

Racesport.nl reports that Flora passed away in the village of Lathum in Netherlands.

The news comes as a shattering blow to the world of superbikes, with the sport still mourning the loss of Steeman and Chrissy Rouse in a matter of days.

Moto GP riders came together ahead of this weekend's race in Australia to pay their respects to Steeman.

Following Steeman's death, a family statement read: "Something you have always been afraid of as a parent of a motorcycle racer has now happened. Our Victor could not win this last race.

“Despite the unbearable loss and grief, we are extremely proud to share with you that our hero, through his passing, was able to save five other people by donating his organs.

"We would like to thank everyone for the way you have lived with us over the past few days. We will miss our Victor enormously."
