OSAKA -- A 60-meter-long slide will open at Tsutenkaku Tower for the Golden Week period in May, with the operating company of the tower announcing its construction.
Called the "Tower Slider," the attraction will take visitors from the observation deck on the third floor to the basement floor. The slide will make one and a half spiral turns around the elevator on the east side of the tower, one of the most famous symbols of Osaka City. It will take about 10 seconds to slide down the 26.5-meter height difference. As the slide is a tube with a transparent ceiling, people can look up at the tower while sliding.
"We want to bring back tourists we have lost because of the pandemic and liven up the area," said an official at Tsutenkakukanko Co., the tower's tourism operator.
The slide is available to those who are 1.2 meters or taller. The fee is 1,000 yen in addition to the admission fee to the observatory.
