Super-fit mum and 'warrior princess' killed in horror bike crash as friends pay tribute

Emotional tributes have been paid to a super-fit mum who has been described as a "warrior princess" with a "beautiful soul".

Lucy John was tragically killed on Sunday morning when a black Honda Civic crashed into her as she was riding her bike on the A48 near Bridgend, South Wales.

The 35-year-old mum-of-one, from Bridgend, was rushed to hospital but later died from her injuries, Wales Online reports.

Now, members of Pen-Y-Bont Triathlon Club, where Lucy was a popular and well-known member, have said they have been left "heartbroken".

Elsa Jade, of Pen-Y-Bont triathlon club, said: "It's with the heaviest of hearts that we write this but today we lost one of the most beautiful souls after she was involved in an accident whilst riding.

"Lucy had all the qualities you could ever hope to have. She was fiercely determined, enthusiastic and was dedicated to every aspect of her life. Family, work, friends, coaching and training.

"We have been inundated with messages relaying peoples memories of Lucy and each of them are example of what a truly incredible, inspirational and helpful person that she was. To say she will be missed is an understatement.

"Our love and condolences go out to Evan and the rest of Lucy's family at this time.

"Shine bright up there beautiful girl."

Pen-Y-Bont Triathlon Club said in a statement: "As a club we are heartbroken to have lost such a committed, determined and caring individual. Lucy oozed positivity and was an inspiration to so many. Not just within our club but to the wider sporting community. As well as her friends, colleagues and family.

"She put her heart and soul into everything she did and seeing her achieve so much in her life is incredible. Lucy and her husband Evan have brought so much to our club and made some great friendships within it too. We will continue to support Evan and his family through this however we can.

"She was an outstanding athlete across the board. Starting her love for cycling with Tondu Wheelers and also being a part of the CrossFit Community with Crossfit Penybont who are all equally as heartbroken."

They added that Lucy was out doing something she "loved", and said the tragic incident has created a "great loss".

A member of the club added: "Those that were lucky enough to have known her, know she was super woman with one of our members describing her as a 'warrior princess' and that’s how we as a club intend to remember her. She’s now the brightest star in the sky and we will always have her with us."

South Wales Police are investigating the crash and are appealing for witnesses to come forward. No arrests have been made at this stage.

Detective Constable Alun Efstathiou said: “I want to thank those members of the public who assisted at the scene and to the local community for their patience while the road was closed while we carried out our investigations. My thoughts are with the deceased’s family at this time.

“We would like to hear from anyone who may have witnessed the collision or who may have any dash-cam footage of the incident or who witnessed the manner of driving of the Honda prior to the collision.”

A JustGiving page has been set up to help support Lucy's family and so far more than £6,000 has been raised.

"Taken too soon. Our thought are with you Evan and family," read one message left on the page.
