A member of Kendrick Lamar's Super Bowl halftime show was detained on the field Sunday night for staging an unplanned political demonstration by displaying a flag combining Sudanese and Palestinian symbols with "Sudan" and "Gaza" written on it.

The performer, part of the 400-member field cast, now faces potential charges, according to New Orleans law enforcement.

"The individual will (be) banned for life from all NFL stadiums and events," said NFL spokesperson Brian McCarthy told AP News.

During Lamar's performance, the individual climbed onto a prop car and raised a flag displaying a combination of Sudanese and Palestinian imagery with the words "Sudan" and "Gaza" written across it.

Authorities are now determining potential charges for the individual, the New Orleans Police Department stated.

"The individual hid the item on his person and unveiled it late in the show," the NFL clarified. "No one involved with the production was aware of the individual's intent."

"The act was neither planned nor part of the production and was never in any rehearsal," Roc Nation, the entertainment company behind the halftime show, said.

Despite the disruption, the show continued, and it appeared that the moment was not captured on the official broadcast.

The halftime performance, which featured Lamar alongside SZA and actor Samuel L. Jackson dressed as Uncle Sam, was otherwise executed as planned.
