Kendrick Lamar delivered a blistering set as he headlined the 2025 Super Bowl halftime show tonight as the Philadelphia Eagles dominated the Kansas City Chiefs with a final score of 22-40.
Pop star Taylor Swift cheered on her boyfriend, Travis Kelce, but was ultimately left crestfallen as the team failed to secure a historic third consecutive Super Bowl.
Lamar was joined onstage by his frequent collaborator SZA, along with surprise guests Samuel L Jackson and Serena Williams, as he delivered a medley of favourites including his Grammy-winning Drake diss track, “Not Like Us”.
Viewers got to take part in some celebrity spotting as Swift was joined in her box by friends including rapper Ice Spice and the Haim sisters. However, her longtime pals Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds appeared to skip the event.
US President Donald Trump was also in attendance but left early after his Chiefs win prediction fell flat.
This year’s event took place in New Orleans at the Caesars Superdome.

A note of caution for the sports fans...

Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds appear to skip Super Bowl with Taylor Swift amid Justin Baldoni drama
Sunday 9 February 2025 23:37 , Tom MurrayBlake Lively was not present at Super Bowl LIX on Sunday as her best friend Taylor Swift cheered on her boyfriend Travis Kelce and the Kansas City Chiefs.
Lively attended last year’s championship game with Swift and Ice Spice and has attended a number of other Chiefs games with the pop megastar.
Ice Spice returned to join Swift at this year’s game but Lively and her husband Ryan Reynolds were notable absences amid the former’s ongoing legal drama with her It Ends With Us co-star Justin Baldoni.
Last December, Lively filed a bombshell complaint against Baldoni — who also directed the movie — alleging sexual harassment.
In the filing, her lawyers claimed that Baldoni's PR team hired Wallace to assist in an alleged smear campaign against Lively. It was claimed he "weaponized a digital army around the country from New York to Los Angeles to create, seed and promote content that appeared to be authentic on social media platforms and internet chat forums."

Drake vs Kendrick: A timeline of the feud between the two rap stars
Sunday 9 February 2025 23:46 , Roisin O'ConnorObviously everyone’s talking about the Eagles vs the Chiefs, but what about the rivalry between two of hip-hop’s biggest stars?

Will Taylor Swift make an announcement tonight?
Sunday 9 February 2025 23:53 , Roisin O'ConnorSwifties have been desperate for a sign that Swift’s re-recording of Reputation is on the way - the Grammys turned out to be a bust, but could she share some news this evening? My colleagues are in denial but I’m convinced that Chiefs stars Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes have rocked up in Reputation colours (red and green/teal). There’s a chance I’m reading too much in to it but they all owe me money if I’m right.

UPDATE:Sports is happening
Monday 10 February 2025 00:08 , Roisin O'ConnorHonestly, this could be Squid Game for all I understand of it, but one observant pundit just said “it’s chaos out there”, which is what I would have said, so maybe I am an expert after all.

Monday 10 February 2025 00:22 , Amber RaikenSuper Bowl LIX is fast approaching, with Kendrick Lamar set to take the stage at the halftime show in New Orleans, Louisiana.
The 2025 Super Bowl will be taking place tonight (February 9), with the Kansas City Chiefs returning to the field in hopes of a three-peat against the Philadelphia Eagles. The two teams previously faced off against each other in 2023, with the Chiefs winning 38-35.
The halftime event is expected to be a show-stopping occasion, with Lamar as the headliner. The “Not Like Us” singer will be joined by his longtime collaborator and friend, SZA, who he’s going on tour with later this year.

Taylor Swift looks serious as she watches Travis Kelce
Monday 10 February 2025 00:27 , Roisin O'ConnorSo far the Eagles are ahead of the Chiefs, which probably explains why Swift appears very focused as she watches from her box with friends Ice Spice and the Haim sisters. Surprisingly sedate box this year compared to the celeb-packed antics of 2024.

Monday 10 February 2025 00:47 , Roisin O'ConnorAgain, I’m no expert but the Chiefs are definitely taking a battering by the Philly Eagles - the cameras are keeping a respectful distance from Swift but she must be stressing.

Super Bowl 2025 halftime show: Kendrick Lamar surprise guests and setlist predictions
Monday 10 February 2025 00:51 , Roisin O'ConnorAnticipation is building for Kendrick Lamar’s Super Bowl halftime show, set to take place tonight (February 9).
In the game itself, the Kansas City Chiefs will be looking to defend their championship title for a third consecutive year — this time against the Philadelphia Eagles. It’s all set to kick off in New Orleans, Louisiana, beginning at 6:30 p.m. EST.
Lamar, 37, is no stranger to the biggest stage in American sport. He came out as a guest performer when Dr Dre headlined the event in 2022, along with Snoop Dogg, Eminem and Mary J Blige.
The Super Bowl often attracts a diverse range of surprise guests. Last year, headliner Usher brought out Alicia Keys, Lil Jon, Ludacris and HER.
One guest who won’t be a surprise during Lamar’s set is SZA. The 35-year-old singer is a frequent collaborator of Lamar’s and is soon set to join him on tour. It has already been confirmed that she will appear alongside the Grammy-winning rapper at the Super Bowl, although she’s keeping tight-lipped about exactly what role she’ll be playing.

Aubrey Plaza makes surprise Super Bowl ad appearance in wake of husband’s death
Monday 10 February 2025 01:21 , Tom MurrayAubrey Plaza made an appearance during Super Bowl LIX on Sunday in an advertisement for Ritz crackers.
The commercial aired just over a month after her husband Jeff Baena died by suicide at the age of 47 on January 3.
The ad, which was filmed in November 2024, features Plaza and fellow actor Michael Shannon arriving at the fictional Ritz Salty Club. The commercial plays off the pair’s notoriously unamused facial expressions and dry personas.
"These are our people," Plaza says, and Shannon adds, "our salty brethren."
Plaza claims she's the saltiest in the club, to which Shannon replies, "Saltier than me? When I smile, people think it's a glitch."

Before he took the stage, though, he was introduced by Oscar-nominated actor Samuel L. Jackson dressed as Uncle Sam. The Pulp Fiction actor stayed throughout the show to introduce each segment.

The Drake-baiting was a smokescreen; what really happened was a righteous nation showed up and bared its teeth. The great American game has only just begun. Go eagles.”

Patrick Mahomes makes prediction on Travis Kelce future amid retirement rumours
Monday 10 February 2025 12:00 , Greg EvansPatrick Mahomes expects Travis Kelce has a “lot of football left in him”, with the Kansas City Chiefs star facing an uncertain future after Sunday’s Super Bowl defeat to the Philadelphia Eagles.
Kelce turns 36 next season and there was considerable speculation over whether the All-Star tight end would announce his retirement if the Chiefs won a third consecutive Super Bowl.
Instead, the Eagles dominated in New Orleans and ran away with a 40-22 victory, as Kelce was limited to just four receptions for 39 yards.
Afterwards, team-mate Mahomes was asked about whether he thinks Kelce will return as a Chief next season and said he will “make that decision on his own”.
"He's given so much to this team and to the NFL and been such a joy, not only for me to work with but for people to watch,” Mahomes said.

Snoop Dogg blasted for ‘stand up to hate’ commercial with Tom Brady after performing at Trump inauguration
Monday 10 February 2025 16:49 , Inga ParkelSnoop Dogg and Tom Brady have been criticized for their “Stand Up to Hate” Super Bowl commercial, especially after the pair’s support for President Donald Trump.
In the advertisement, which aired during Sunday’s NFL game between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles, Snoop and Brady are shown going back and forth, trading “I hate you” statements.
“I hate you because I don’t understand you,” Snoop says, while Brady hits back: “I hate you because people I know hate you.”
The screen then goes black before the message, “The reasons for hate are as stupid as they sound” appears.
“Man, I hate that things are so bad that we have to make a commercial about it,” Snoop adds, with Brady concurring: “Me too.”

Gaetz and Boebert lead Maga world’s meltdown over Kendrick Lamar’s Super Bowl halftime show
Monday 10 February 2025 19:30 , Inga ParkelFormer Congressman Matt Gaetz and Colorado Representative Lauren Boebert led Trumpworld’s scathing criticism over Kendrick Lamar’s Super Bowl LIX halftime show.
After sweeping five Grammy Awards last week, Lamar took to stage at Caeser’s Superdome in New Orleans on Sunday, as the Kansas City Chiefs trailed the Philadelphia Eagles 24-0. The Birds wound up hoisting the Lombardi Trophy for a second time with the final score of 40-22 in their favor.
Before rifling through his hits, including “DNA,” “Humble,” and his watered-down Drake diss track “Not Like Us,” actor Samuel L. Jackson introduced the rapper onto the stage, saying: “Too loud, too reckless, too ghetto. Mr. Lamar.”
It was a sentiment that was apparently taken rather literally by some of Trump’s MAGA faithful, who lashed out at the Pulitzer prize winner's allegedly incomprehensible performance.

Man holding Palestine and Sudan flag during halftime show chased off-stage
Monday 10 February 2025 20:00 , Inga ParkelAn unknown backup dancer made a bold political statement during Kendrick Lamar’s performance.
Standing atop the GNX car used by the rapper for his set, the man unfurled a flag with the words “Gaza” and “Sudan” painted in bold black letters.
He managed to hold it up for a few seconds before he was quickly apprehended by security.
Despite some social media speculation that the stunt was intended by the rapper, who has been criticized for not being vocal about Palestine to date despite his “socially conscious” music, the NFL confirmed that the protester was, in fact, a member of the crew gone rogue.

Kendrick Lamar’s Drake-baiting was a smokescreen – his Super Bowl show represented a righteous nation baring its teeth
Monday 10 February 2025 21:30 , Inga Parkel“Salutations!” beams Samuel L Jackson, spinning around the centrefield of New Orleans’s Caesars Superdome clad in a traditional all-American red, white and blue tailcoat and wisps of white beard, our host and personification of the new US resistance. “It’s your Uncle Sam, and this is the great American game!”
The stakes of the Super Bowl halftime show have never been higher. As Kendrick Lamar appears crouched in a spotlight on the hood of a classic GNX car beneath the crab-like eyes of Donald J Trump – the first sitting president ever to attend a Super Bowl – he seems impishly intent on using the biggest moment of his career so far to charm and disarm the cruel world order. “The revolution about to be televised, you picked the right time but the wrong guy,” Lamar raps. And, among 120 million global viewers, the right-thinking world holds its breath for scandal, spectacle and a second, ideologically polarised 2025 inauguration.
There’s a lot to unpick.

The whole stadium joined in on Kendrick's infamous 'A Minor' lyric
Monday 10 February 2025 22:00 , Inga ParkelWhile Lamar omitted the word “pedophile” from his performance of his Drake diss track “Not Like Us,” he made sure to include his infamous “a minor” lyric.
Although, even if he had omitted the latter, I’m not sure the audience would’ve let that slide, as the entire stadium could be heard singing the line with him.
