South London is increasingly providing the backdrop in prestige TV shows. From Candice Carty-Williams’ Queenie, which is set around Brixton, and smash-hit romcom Rye Lane in Peckham, to Champion and now Supacell, which airs on Netflix this week.
This story of a group of south Londoners who develop superpowers is set around Peckham and Lewisham, and the story takes us on a whistle-stop tour of the capital (including into central London for a climactic battle sequence) which naturally had us curious about where it was all filmed.
Though of course there are the easily-recognisable locations: Brixton station, for instance, and the high street by Lewisham station, filming Supacell took the cast and crew all over London in search of the perfect location, with a quick detour to Edinburgh for one storyline.
From the hospitals to the jerk chicken shops, here’s where the show was filmed.
Deptford Park and Finsbury Park
In the show, Michael and Dionne go for a romantic walk early in Deptford Park in the series.
The Forces Royal Cavalry Barracks, Hounslow
This was the location for the battle in Piccadilly Circus, which takes place in the future
Peckham Rd, London
Peckham Road doubled for the streets of Brockley, where Michael heads in search of others who have developed superpowers.
Aquarius Golf Club in Honour Oak
This was where the crew filmed the cemetery scene where Michael flashes forward to the future and finds Dionne’s grave.
Faces Nightclub in Gants Hill, Essex
This is Onyx Bar in the show, where Sabrina faces off against a mysterious assailant.
Ealing Hospital in Southall
The hospital where Sabrina works and Michael’s mum is receiving treatment for sickle-cell disease.
Thamesmead on Wolvercote Road and Brunel University on Kingston Lane
Tazer’s stomping ground of the Tower Block Estates were filmed here.
Lindley Estate, Peckham and Acton Vale Estate in west London
The Sixer Estate, where Tazer faces off against his rivals (to deadly consequences) was filmed at two different locations.
Rye Lane station in Peckham, Station Way
The backdrop for Tazer and the Tower Boys on bikes.
Daphanie’s, 173 Peckham High Road
The jerk chicken shop where the characters congregate.
