Sunshine and showers in Greater Manchester this weekend as region dodges thunderstorms

It might have been a bright start in Greater Manchester today (Friday 24 June), but unfortunately the much-enjoyed sunshine isn't here to stay. The remainder of the week will be mostly wet, with frequent showers forecast for the afternoons.

But it looks like our region will be dodging the brunt of the bad weather this weekend; heavy showers - and even thunder - is forecast in northeast England and southeast Scotland, according to the Met Office.

Today, the rain will begin falling on Greater Manchester from around 2pm and won't let up until 11pm, although the showers will only be light. The temperature will remain warm, peaking at 21C between 2pm and 5pm.

The rain will let up for a few hours tonight, but will continue falling throughout the small hours of the morning. Much like today, Saturday (25 June) will start out being deceivingly sunny. The intervals will continue until clouds begin to creep in from lunchtime.

The wet stuff will fall again from 1pm, with heavy showers forecast at 4pm. Conditions will begin to settle from 6pm, with the sun making a come back for a few hours before night properly draws in.

Temperatures will slip below 20C over the weekend peaking at 19C on Saturday and 17C on Sunday. The skies will remain clear overnight on Saturday, but Sunday will bring us a cloudy start.

Light showers are due to hit us earlier on Sunday, starting an 10am and continuing throughout the day. It should have dried up by the time we settle down for bed.

Despite the rain and the slightly cooler weather, the pollen count remains high for the rest of the week - so continue doing what you can to fight those pesky hayfever symptoms.
