Sunny Edwards Next Fight: Who Is 'Showtime' Fighting Next?

Sunny Edwards’ next fight won’t be anytime soon, as the former world flyweight champion has announced his retirement from boxing. Edwards was beaten by British rival Galal Yafai in his last fight, and has announced his retirement in the aftermath at just 28-years-old.

Sunny Edwards Next Fight: ‘Showtime’ Hangs Gloves Up At 28-Years-Old

Sunny Edwards is one of the most talked about and popular fighters in the UK right now. An outspoken and confident character, Edwards is a former world champion and one of the most skilled fighters from British shores right now.

The 28-year-old has only lost twice as a professional boxer. His first defeat came to Jesse ‘Bam’ Rodriguez, who is widely regarded as a Top 10 pound-for-pound fighter in the world right now. Apart from the ‘Bam’ defeat, Sunny Edwards’ only other loss inside the boxing ring came last time out against Galal Yafai.

Sunny Edwards’ record sits at an impressive 21-2. Edwards has competed in the flyweight division his entire career, hence why he isn’t as big a name as some other British fighters who he has actually achieved more than such as Chris Eubank Jr, Conor Benn and Adam Azim to name but a few.

In regards to Sunny Edwards’ next fight, ‘Showtime’ may well never be seen inside a boxing ring again. After suffering back-to-back defeats to Jesse Rodriguez and Galal Yafai, the Englishman has officially announced his retirement from the sport.

The former world champion went into the Yafai fight last time out as the slight favourite with the best boxing betting sites in the UK, but ultimately came unstuck. During the fight itself, Edwards was seen saying in his corner that he didn’t want to be in the ring.

Alarm bells were ringing there and then, with Edwards getting stopped a few rounds later. Now, it seems we might never see the former world champion in a ring ever again. Edwards admits he has lost his love for boxing, and can retire knowing he achieved everything he wanted to in the sport.

Will Sunny Edwards Fight On Or Stick With Retirement Announcement?

As previously mentioned, it seems that we may never see ‘Showtime’ in a boxing ring every again. So in regards to Sunny Edwards’ next fight, there might never be another one.

However, at just 28-years-old there is still plenty of time for Edwards to sit back, relax for a while and make a comeback in a few years time. Whether or not that be at flyweight or not remains to be seen, but for now the Englishman is finished and is happily walking away from the sport.

Promoter Eddie Hearn is a man that can certainly pull some strings in boxing, and he would have every confidence of providing his man with a world title shot if he was to return in the coming years. Not immediately, but if Edwards returned in a year or so, got a couple wins under his belt, Hearn could almost guarantee him a world title shot.

Additionally, if His Excellency Turki Alalshikh continues with his heavy involvement in boxing, Sunny Edwards could be a name to feature on the Riyadh Season cards going forward. Despite being a flyweight, ‘Showtime’ most definitely has a solid fanbase. This all depends on whether he sticks with his retirement announcement or not.

Time will tell who Sunny Edwards’ next fight is against after the Galal Yafai defeat, or if at all he’ll ever step foot in a boxing ring ever again.
