Sundown Adventureland's Christmas Spectacular returns with indoor new arena

Sundown Adventureland’s Christmas Spectacular is returning this winter. The theme park near Retford will have a festive makeover from 19th November until Christmas Eve.

This year's event sees the opening of the Four Seasons Arena, a purpose built indoor facility that takes families on a picturesque journey. At the end, Father Christmas will be greeting visitors in his grotto, surrounded by twinkling lights and colourful baubles.

During the session, families will also receive a warm welcome from Mrs Clause and her cheeky elves, before getting a special Christmas gift. There will be live entertainment on the new stage and hot and cold snacks served in the arena.

Debora Griffin, director at Sundown Adventureland said: “Our Christmas Spectacular is one of our most special traditions at Sundown. The Night Before Christmas ride was my lovely grandma Audrey’s favourite and every year right up until she died last year at the age of 92, she would be the first one on the ride to test it out.”

Shaun Malvern, director at Sundown Adventureland added: “Relying on good weather and a marquee in the winter wasn’t always practical, so the new arena protects our visitors from the elements and makes the experience even more enjoyable. It’s going to make a huge difference all year round.

“A year in the making by local tradespeople, the arena is a one-stop-shop for all things Christmas with the entrance to the Night Before Christmas Ride, photography facilities, entertainment stage and an array of food and drink facilities serving crepes, hot chocolate and festive biscuits.”

All tickets admit entry to the wider theme park, which will be converted in a Winter Wonderland and the annual “Night Before Christmas” ride will make its eagerly anticipated return for the young and young-at-heart to enjoy. Visitors can climb aboard for a magical journey through the enchanted forest or conquer the firm favourites including Jolly Pirate Boat Ride, Giddy Piggies and Rocky Mountain Railroad.

For those who don’t want the festive fun to end, Sundown’s indoor play area, Crash Landings, remains open for dinner from 5pm until 9pm from November 19 until to December 23.

Managing director Gaynor Corr said: “As a family-run business, we know how special this time of year is for children and how it’s cherished by parents, so it’s a privilege to help create those memories. Sundown’s Christmas Spectacular is always a great success and we have familiar faces return every year, so we hope the new additions of the Four Seasons Arena and the stay-and-play option at Crash Landings go down well with guests."

Tickets are £21 for adults and £25 for children, which includes a session with Father Christmas, a gift and access to the rest of the theme park. Food and drink will be available to purchase at the park, including hot soup, hot dogs, mince pies and other festive snacks. Booking is essential.
