A Nottinghamshire theme park with an unusual twist has been named one of the country's best attractions at the UK Theme Park Awards. Sundown Adventureland, a family-friendly attraction near Retford, has been recognised by the travel website as it was shortlisted in the UK Theme Park Awards across three separate categories, including the best theme park for toddlers.
The site mostly attracts families with children under the age of 10, but remains a hidden gem, set in Ramptom, north Nottinghamshire. Sundown Adventure originally opened as a farm in 1968, but as of 2020, had over 20 rides and attractions.
Rides include the Giddy Piggies, the Jolly Pirate Boat Ride and the Money Mahem Driving School. There are also a number of attractions for children and adults to enjoy such as the Storybook Village, Sunnydown Farm, Toy Town and the Pet Shop.
Play areas include the Pirate Adventure, Rodeo Corral and Smugglers Cove. Admission costs range from free for children or adults under 90cm and wheelchair users, to £97.50 for a family of five.
Sundown Adventureland has a TripAdvisor score of 4.5 based on 1,930 reviews. One reviewer said: "We have just returned from our second trip to Sundown Adventureland in the last 12 months and I have to say this is turning into one of my favourite parks in the UK. We visited back in October when our daughter was two, and returned this week for her 3rd birthday and she absolutely loved it all."
Another added who visited in June 2023 added: "I used to come here when I was a child with my grandparents and now visiting with my own children it’s absolutely magical I can’t put into words how amazing this place is for small children it has everything you could want."
