Sunderland target says Benfica farewells ahead of 'five-year deal' with Black Cats

Sunderland 'target' Luis Semedo has bid farewell to Benfica ahead of a reported move to the Stadium of Light. The 19-year-old Portuguese striker has reportedly signed a five-year deal with the Black Cats.

That's according to MaisFutebol, who have documented his departure from the Eagles. The Portuguese youth international has been a regular in the youth set-up with Benfica but hasn't been able to break into the first-team set-up at the Stadium of Light.

Semedo scored twice and notched two assists for Benfica's B team last season in 18 games and was part of their side that won the Youth League in Portugal. The youngster is the latest European talent linked with a move to Wearside under the new regime and could be the second signing of the summer.

Tony Mowbray's side confirmed the arrival of Nectar Triantis from Australian side Central Coast Mariners and Semedo is expected to follow suit.

Semedo posted on social media: "My connection with this huge club has come to an end. It was thirteen years with an eagle on my chest. There were thirteen unique years. I ask everyone and especially the Benfica supporters to understand me.

"I arrived as a boy, at the club that I love, who instilled in me essential values for the man and player that I am today", he said before extending his thanks.
