Sunderland supporters sweat as Ross Stewart stretched off during Fulham FA Cup clash

Ross Stewart faces a nervous wait after being stretchered off during Sunderland’s FA Cup clash against Fulham. Unsurprisingly, the Scotsman is top goalscorer at the Stadium of light in 2022-23, with 11 goals across all competitions.

His heroics were pivotal towards preventing a fifth season in League One last year, scoring 26 goals. A hamstring injury earlier this season ruled Stewart out for 15 league games - and the Black Cats’ form nosedived.

Since his return after the World Cup break, Sunderland have cut the gap from the play-off places to just one point. Supporters will now be sweating on the 26-year-old’s fitness after he was forced off at Craven Cottagers.

A tussle with Issa Diop immediately signalled danger as Stewart pulled up and indicated to the bench. As Abdoullah Ba took to the field to replace him, the 6,000 Sunderland fans in attendance applauded their top goalscorer off.

This is how supporters reacted to the news on social media.

@John67684101: That's looks a serious injury by his reaction....the need to get simms or another striker has just become more important.....one thing us he's not getting sold that's for sure

@RyanEvans29: If Stewart is out the promotion playoff push may be over. They have 3 days in the transfer window. Need to get a striker in right away.

@buff_egan: This will be an absolute Nightmare if Stewart is out for a lengthy period. I pray to God its not as bad as it looks

@joshuawilson209: At least nobody will be in for him in the next few days now

@TDeSoussa87: Man I’m crushed. Well wishes Ross!
