Sunderland supporters have called on the club to sign a striker on a permanent deal after Ellis Simms was recalled by parent club Everton. The Toffees have been impressed by the loanee after scoring seven goals in 17 appearances at the Stadium of Light.
However, red and white supporters know that with Ross Stewart in the final few months of his contract - albeit the club have the option for another year - any injury to the striker would be curtains for their promotion push. The Black Cats have defied expectations so far this season and will head into the new year in fourth position.
The loss of Simms' has increased the importance of Stewart signing a new contract on Wearside, while also showing the need for a striker in January.
