Sunderland supporters predict top-half finish in the Championship

Sunderland fans expect a top-half finish in the Championship and believe Nathan Broadhead could be the key to achieving it.

In the latest Chronicle Live survey, which had 1394 respondents, fans were asked where they realistically expect Sunderland to finish when they return to the Championship next season. By far the most popular response, with 60.3 percent of the vote, was that the Black Cats would finish in the top half of the table.

The next most popular prediction was that Sunderland would merely survive: 25.1 percent of respondents predicted that outcome. Meanwhile 12.6 percent thought Sunderland would make the play-offs, while an optimistic 1.4 percent thought they would get automatically promoted.

Fans were also asked in the survey which of last season’s loanees the club should try to bring back. Unsurprisingly, the top answer was Nathan Broadhead with 68.8 percent of the vote, while Jack Clarke got 21.1 percent, Callum Doyle got 6.9 percent, while 2.2 percent said none of them.

Nathan Broadhead was at the Stadium of Light on loan from Everton last season. He picked up 13 goals during his time at Sunderland and it is reported that the club is trying to sign him up.

Finally, fans were also asked how much they would need to spend in summer to make a go of it in the Championship. The most popular answer, with 40.6 percent of the vote, was up to £20m; 23.6 percent thought up to £30m; 21.2 percent thought over £30m; and 14.6 percent said up to £10m.
